This meal was the first time I had ever cooked with oyster sauce, which slightly intimidated me before I made this meal as I was worried the flavour would be overpowering. I was very pleasantly surprised, however, as I could barely taste it.
The one change I made to the recipe was that I did not incorporate the meat the original recipe had called for, as part of this process is to try other forms of protein. I incorporated tofu as my protein, which I had never tried before. I did not add any flavouring to it and essentially just cut it up and incorporated it with the snow peas. I was surprised by how it got fairly soft, but I did not mind the texture of it at all. I was really excited by this as I realized how realistic it would be to incorporate tofu as a protein substitute in future recipes. I am very excited to try the teriyaki tofu next week. I had thought about making the teriyaki recipe for this meal but wanted to try them separately before seeing if they may work together well. I think the idea of oyster sauce with teriyaki intimidated me. However, I think I will be interested in trying them together after making the teriyaki recipe. It was a recipe I could see working with many things after I made it.
I was able to meal prep this as my lunch for the following two days, which was delicious. The recipe was very good in the following days, and it was very nice to have a meal packed with fresh ingredients and ready to eat, especially one that had protein and kept me full.
From start to finish, it took me around 30 minutes to make this recipe without prepping anything ahead of time. How easy it was to make made the recipe very realistic as incorporation into my future rotation, especially being very flavourful and delicious. I really enjoyed the recipe this week, and I look forward to finding other ingredients to incorporate into it in the future!
